Health, Martial Arts Risk & Participation Declaration

Last updated: 15 September 2026

1. Participant responsibilities

  • Complete the LionHeart health screening/PAR-Q accurately before training.
  • Inform LionHeart promptly of relevant changes to health, injury, medication or pregnancy.
  • Stop and tell a coach if you experience unusual pain, chest pain, faintness, severe breathlessness, neurological symptoms or another concerning symptom.
  • Follow coaching instructions, protective-equipment requirements and restrictions.
  • Do not knowingly conceal a contagious illness/skin condition or significant health issue that affects safe participation.

2. Nature of activity

Training may include mobility, stretching, padwork, bagwork, partner drills, clinching, conditioning, strength work, controlled contact and authorised sparring. Martial arts and physical training involve inherent risks of contact, falls, exertion and injury even where reasonable care is taken.

3. Coach discretion

LionHeart coaches may modify, stop or decline participation where they reasonably consider an activity unsafe, require protective equipment, or recommend medical advice/clearance. This is a safety decision and not a medical diagnosis.

4. Concussion/head injury

A participant with suspected concussion or significant head injury must stop immediately and must not return to training that day. Return to contact/training must follow current medical and BMABA/national concussion guidance.

5. Legal rights

This declaration acknowledges normal sporting risk; it is not a waiver of LionHeart’s duty to take reasonable care. Nothing in this declaration excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or any legal right that cannot be excluded.
