What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is a traditional Thai martial art known as "The Art of Eight Limbs" because it utilizes punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes.
What age is appropriate for starting Muay Thai?
Our gym offers classes for children starting at 5 years old. Classes are tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
Is Muay Thai safe for kids?
Muay Thai classes for children are designed with safety in mind. Coaches focus on functional movement, active play, coordination, strength, fitness, martial techniques, discipline, and respect, all while minimizing the risk of injury. After a few sessions, it's recommended to buy your child their own club shorts and top.
What should my child wear to class?
Kids should wear comfortable athletic clothing, such as shorts or leggings and a T-shirt or vest. We provide spare boxing gloves and shin guards, but in the future, it's a good idea to invest in your own hand wraps, boxing gloves, and shin guards.
Will my child be sparring right away?
Sparring is introduced gradually. Most classes start with fundamental techniques, strength, and fitness, with sparring becoming part of the curriculum as students advance.
What can my child expect to learn in Muay Thai classes?
Children will learn basic Muay Thai techniques, improve their fitness, develop coordination and discipline, and gain confidence.
How do you handle discipline and behaviour in class?
Our instructors use positive reinforcement and structured routines to teach discipline and respect. Clear rules and expectations are set from the beginning.
How often should my child attend classes?
We currently offer 1 class per week and will provide more as the club grows.
Are there any health benefits associated with Muay Thai for children?
Muay Thai can improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall physical health. It also promotes mental resilience and focus.
Is prior experience needed?
All of our children’s classes are designed for beginners, so no prior experience is needed. Our instructors will guide students through the basics.
What qualifications do the instructors have?
All our teachers are DBS checked and graded in Muay Thai to either a high level or a Teacher qualification. They also hold various other sporting qualifications and have experience teaching Muay Thai, with a focus on working with children.
Can parents watch the classes?
Yes, depending on the space, parents can observe classes.
How do I know if my child is progressing?
Progress can be assessed through skill development, feedback from instructors, and your child’s growing confidence and enthusiasm for the sport. We also have an evaluation form and a structured grading system.
